Fun Fall Family Outing

This past weekend we went to Whistling Wells Farm Apple Orchard for their Apple Fest.  There was a pumpkin patch, animals, a live band, and apple picking.  After Apple Fest, we went to St. Croix Regional Park and spent some time down by the river.  It was so fun.  The river was lined with gorgeous fall colors and it was an absolutely beautiful and warm fall day.  Eli had his feet in the sand for the first time and was not a fan!  He also touched the cold river water and started crying.  He wasn’t a huge fan of the beach, but I think next year will be a different story.  Here are some pictures from our fun family day.

Month Seven

Well, Eli is already 8 months so I’m definitely behind here, but here is his 7 month updates anyways.  Month seven has been so incredible in the amount of developmental milestones that Eli has accomplished.  Here’s what he has been up to:
-crawling much faster than last month
-pulling himself up to standing on everything including the couch, ottoman, chairs, his music play table, the bath tub, doors, the baby gate
-cruising/taking steps along the couch, holding on to things with only one hand and swaying around.  He’s so proud of himself that he can stand up on his own!
-eating two meals a day, some purees that I’ve made and some chunks of food like bananas and cheerios.
-his personality is really starting to show now, he’s such a sweet boy, he gives lots of kisses and hugs.
-is always on the move
-diaper changing and getting him dressed is an extreme struggle.  He twists and turns, cries and does anything he can to get away from us while we are trying to change him.  It’s exhausting!
-we took Eli in to the doctor this month because he broke out in a bright red rash all over his stomach and chest that looked like a terrible sunburn.  The doctor thought it was some sort of unspecific viral rash and that it would go away on it’s own and it was gone the next day.  He weighed 19.5 lbs.
-At the end of this month I took Eli to a library story time where Eli was weighed again and he was up to 20 lbs.  He’s a heavy boy!
Overall this has been such a fun month!  We love this little boy so much.  Updates on month 8 coming soon!

6 Months

6 months has been so much fun!  Eli had his well check appointment this month so we have his updated stats this month.  Here’s what he has been up to:

-army crawling like crazy, getting anywhere he wants, always on the go

-holds himself up on all fours

-pushes himself up to a sitting position from all fours

-is very aware of his surroundings and likes to explore new things

-has tried these solids: advocado, sweet potato, carrots, butternut squash banana, pear, and apples.  So far he doesn’t seem to really like any of them.  He makes funny faces for the first few bites and eventually just keeps his mouth closed so we can’t get any more in.  Advocados and bananas went over the best, while carrots were the worst.  He REALLY didn’t like carrots.

-likes to blow raspberries on my skin

-laughs a lot and has the best smile :)

-makes the “D” sound. says dee dee

-shows his displeasure or frustration a lot more.  He will let us know when he doesn’t like something, or if we take a toy away that he wanted, etc…

-sleep has become a battle because of teething.  It’s much harder to put him down to sleep, we have to go in about 3 or 4 times before he actually falls asleep, he then sleeps from about 8pm to 12am and then is up every 3 hours after that.  It’s exhausting, we’re all tired. If we give him tylenol or Boirons Camilla drops he sleeps 10-12 hours :)

-is starting to enjoy other babies and people more.  Gives people smiles now and is more welcoming towards new faces.  Has a lot of fun watching older kids play.

-loves to be outside and stroller rides.

-doesn’t like his exersaucer, pack n play or jumperoo as much because they keep him in one place.

-lunges for me or Jeremy to hold him but once we have him, he immediately lunges to get down to play on the floor.

-naps are getting longer: 2 hours in the morning, 1 or 2 hours in the afternoon and a shorter or non-existent evening nap.

-drinks out of a sippy cup and LOVES water.  It’s hilarious how much he loves it.  He will freak out when he sees us drinking water and will lunge to drink out of our glasses.

-crawls towards us to get in our laps

-sits up very well on his own now and plays sitting up for a few minutes

-loves to chase balls and knock down towers of blocks

-desperately tries to crawl into the kitchen or into little nooks or basically any place he shouldn’t go

-Gives mom and dad kisses. So cute.

It’s amazing how much he has accomplished this month.  He really does just keep getting more and more fun.  We love this little guy so much and are having a blast with him.

5 Months

Eli has been so fun this month.  Here are things he has been doing:

-the pull and scoot: not quite crawling but he can move himself all over the living room floor

-”latches on” to my face or eats my face to let me know when he’s hungry

-is a smiley, happy boy and has a great twinkle in his eye

-had his first teething episode but still no teeth.  It was a rough week of no sleep for any of us and a very cranky, fussy baby

-is still a champion nurser

-loves his daddy so much and just lights up when he sees him.  Eli will laugh for no one else the way he will laugh for his daddy

-enjoys his jumperoo and exersaucer

-has tried rice cereal and doesn’t seem to like it

-has been sleeping pretty well for the most part, but prefers to be nursed to sleep and it’s taking longer and longer…

-enjoys scooting around the living room and playing with his toys.  Eli keeps himself entertained for long periods of time with his toys.

-loves Gerald, his tall giraffe in the nursery and lunges to give him a hug after every nap

-celebrated his first father’s day

-sat up on his own for the first time

-got his first haircut by mom and dad

*Eli is well into his 6th month at this point.  I’m behind as usual but his 6 month photo shoot is coming soon!

Rice Cereal

This weekend we gave Eli rice cereal for the first time.  Even though the pediatrician said we could give it to him right at 4 months, I waited until the end of this 4th month.  Eli has been showing signs of wanting food all month now, by watching us intently while we are eating, making chewing motions with his mouth, reaching out to grab our food and opening his mouth wide if you put food near it.  His first experience with rice cereal went great.  It was pretty liquid since it was mixed with breastmilk, so it wasn’t too hard for him to swallow.  He took it really well and even stared lunging forward with his mouth open for more at the end.  I think we’ll keep trying rice cereal during month five and then move on to veggies for month 6.  I’m thinking about trying to make Eli’s veggies myself and trying to decide on the best way to store the purees.  I’ve heard that ice cube trays with covers work well so I might go that route and I’ve found some good recipes to try out as well.  I’m looking forward to this stage, but I know it will be messy and time consuming too.  Should be fun!

Play date with the Antonello kids

This past Friday Eli and I went over to the Antonello’s.  We had a great time just relaxing outside and having Eli get to know Veda and Silas.  Veda is the first baby that Eli hasn’t cried at after meeting.  I think that is a great sign of future friendship :)

Church

The last couple of weekends at church, Eli has been super cuddly.  We’re not sure if it’s the loud music, so many people/things to look at or if he’s just tired this time of time, but it sure is cute.  This photo was taken on Father’s day.  Eli loves his daddy :)

Birthmark

Right before Eli’s 4 month appointment, we noticed a birthmark on his toe.  The pediatrician confirmed that it indeed was a birthmark.

First trip to Como Zoo

A few weekends ago Jeremy and I took Eli to the Como Zoo for the first time.  Although he slept for most of the trip, he did wake up towards the end to walk through the conservatory and Japanese gardens.  Eli loved being in the Ergo carrier with his dad and was laughing the whole way through the Japanese Garden.
